Now there's a few different ways which you can do this. Commercially they tend to do it with a large vat of sand and they usually use cheap electricity at night to heat that sand up. But I'm using this big log burner. Now this log burner has what's called a back boiler on the back. But as you can see here I've got a lot of bricks and I'll try and remove some of it so you can see. But in there I've got the entirety behind here completely filled with about 00 kilos of sand. So what happens is the excess heat from there would usually go straight up the chimney and be lost. But I have the chimney wrapped in all this sand and bricks and bits of marble and then that way the heat gets absorbed by all of that and then if this fire goes out it provides a lot of heat over a much longer time to be discharged into the room and into the back boiler for the radiator system I mentioned. Now the heat I this is usually been charging up the sand battery at the back there giving about six to eight hours of extra heat throughout the night so if this goes out we've usually got pretty warm room by the time we get in here in the morning again
