Product Details

Le Corbusier designed the original Grand Confort Lounge Chair (LC3) collection based on the human scale. Born Charles Edouard Jeanneret, Le Corbusier is undoubtedly considered to be the most important Modernist chair designer in France. A spirited advocate of Modernism, Le Corbusier created a range of Grand Confort Lounge Chairs (LC3) that expressed his ideas with great sophistication. Mrs. Heidi Weber of Zurich first put the Le Corbusier Grand Confort Lounge (LC3) collection into production in 1959. With his approval, she changed the appearance of this chair and added this loveseat. She removed the spring mechanism and used fabricating methods which allowed the frame to be chromed. She also gave the cushions a more formal, tailored look. Her contribution to the re-design of the collection was instrumental to the commercial success of the collection. During Le Corbusier’s early career, he traveled throughout Europe studying theoretical architecture. Various structures, such as Charterhouse of the Valley of Ema, and the Parthenon, would have a lasting impact on his design philosophy. During World War I, Le Corbusier taught architecture in Switzerland and designed several villas. Each of these designs would feature reinforced concrete and an open floor plan. Made in Italy. Standard black leather in stock. Colored leathers are factory direct. Dimensions: H 24 1/2" D 28 3/4" W 39"; SH 14 1/4" Materials: LC3 Grand Confort Lounge Chair with polished chrome or matte black tubular frame.
