Hundreds of the animals have been found mummified. He was worshipped to placate his sacred animals (the crocodiles). He was portrayed as a man with the head of a crocodile, or sometimes simply as one. In the Book of the Dead, he assists in the birth of Horus and helps to destroy Seth.
