Sarong / Textile - Handwoven thick cotton, using the pahikung technique, where the pattern is developed with a supplementary warp. - Natural dyes showcase pictorial patterns. - Orange, red, brown and green colours. - 122cm (height) x 144cm (Circumference) (48" x 57") - roughly! Sumba & Pahikung - Sumba is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands in the province of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. - Much of the cloth is used for ceremonies, weddings, funerals and passed down through families for generations., with designs illustrating island life or having ritualistic significance. - The dyes are made from natural plants, such as Indigofera tinctoria (which is mixed with lime, and fermented) and the reds from Morinda Citrifolia roots. Other colours are made using a mixture of roots and leaves. - Due to being hand made, there might be some imperfections and sizing differences. Delicate & specialised hand washing advised.
