Alexander McQueen. 1999 . Prosthetic leatherwork by Queen Mary Hospital . The hospital was was founded in 1915 for soldiers who lost limbs in war service . Today it's still in the stately home of Roehampton House . By 1917 some 11,000 soldiers had been treated, and new patients were arriving at the rate of 100 a week. By the end of WW1 (1918 ) some 26,000 had received prosthetic limbs at the Hospital, which had gained an international reputation as a leading limb-fitting hospital .
