TARZAN-CERAMIC OBJECT OF ART BY ETTORE SOTTSASS. The Italian designer began working in ceramics in 1956. At first not that successful with his designs for ceramics, Sottsass' unique designs began to take off after a stimulating visit to India in the early 1960s. The first ceramics after this period were called Ceramics of Darkness. During this period, Sottsass developed the idea of objects as diagrams, which led to his strikingly minimalist and geometric ceramics.

Anti-Design: In 1981, Sottsass & a group of architects & designers, formed the Memphis Group, the name from Bob Dylan's "Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again". Memphis was launched with a collection of 40 pieces of colorful and ironic pieces of furniture, ceramics, lighting, glass and textiles which featured fluorescent colors, slick surfaces, intentionally lop-sided shapes and squiggly laminate patterns. Many of the key designers went on to work with world-famous design firms.
