a blue and white ad for dee's butterscotch covered ice cream bar

Taking a much needed ice cream bar and popsicle packaging break today. Next to these frozen confections, the packaging design wins me over every time. Most all of these unused old stock wrappers date between the 1930s to 1950s, and available from MisterCola. The last two are in cold storage in the Letterology Archives. Enjoy!

the label for an ice cream center on a rollie sticker is shown in pink and blue

An old Liverpool favorite for many years. The twicer was a lollie ice with an ice cream centre produced by William Pendleton & sons Kirkby Liverpool. Pendleton's was sold to Associated British foods in 1979 and to Lyons Maid in 1988

Another of the three-dimensional pieces, this ice cream carton came full of bottle caps. I don't remember this brand, though the name is awfully close to Breyer's. My guess is this is another West Coast regional brand. This comes from the "Munktiki Collection", a large lot of consumer goods packaging saved and stored by Californian Paul Nielsen during the 1970's. A collection I recently acquired and will be documenting here. For more on Paul's current activities, check out www.munktiki.com.
