I love nests, something so wildly beautiful about them.

The cool thing about bird's nest fungus isn't that it looks like a real nest filled with eggs—it's that it launches its "eggs" like a cannonball through the air to reproduce! These tiny mushrooms show up wherever there's decaying organic matter, so you'll find them in rotting timber, wood mulch, and dead vegetation.

These remarkable nesting locations show how birds can adapt to their environment. Although not all birds nest, they all build or look to find a safe place to lay and hatch their eggs. Until recently it was believed that nest building was an inherent skill, but recent studies suggest that birds can learn to improve.
