Modified log cabin quilt patterns

Today we're going to put together an easy Log Cabin quilt. The Log Cabin block is a traditional block that has lots of different layout options. Generally half of the block is light and the other half is dark. But you can use contrasting colors - like pink and blue - or even lots of prints but all in one color.

Today let's sew up an Uneven Log Cabin quilt block! This variation (also known as an Off-Center Log Cabin) of the ever-popular log cabin adds a curve by using different width strips. The design adds more interest to quilt layouts and is just as easy as the original.

This is for a CURVY log cabin - not a regular log cabin. I had a request for this one so I thought I'd post it! The varying width of the two sides of the strips gives the impression of a curve to the finished blocks. You can place the blocks so that "circles" pop out from the pattern, or so that a flower effect can happen - use the coloring sheets to plan your colors ahead of time for the effect you're wanting. Still feeling pretty new to quilting, I try to learn a different technique with each quilt I make. This was my first log cabin; a curved log cabin, I guess it's called. It is queen size and used in the guest bedroom of our home. It uses a border fabric for the triangle accents on each block. This was my first try at a modified feather in the quilting.
