Touchy!
The Mimosa pudica plant undergoes an immediate response to touch or vibration, known as thigmonasty. The plant's leaves close up quickly after stimulated. This is a defensive mechanism as it lowers the surface area available to herbivores. It is also a mechanism that can be used to shake off smaller insects who might be attempting to feed on it. The most popular thigmonastic movement is that which the Venus flytrap undergoes when closing its modified leaves to trap its prey.
