Marlon Brando liked to box. While performing in the stage version of "A Streetcar Named Desire", he would often persuade a crew member to spar with him. During one of these matches, a crew member surprised him with a hard punch to the nose. Brando's nose was broken so badly that it literally was split across its bridge. He managed to go on stage and finish the play despite the fact that backstage efforts to stanch the bleeding had failed, but he was taken to the hospital immediately after.
